A “bluebottle” refers to the striking bluebottle jellyfish (Physalia utriculus), a marine organism found in Australian waters and other warm ocean regions. Though it may look like a typical jellyfish, the bluebottle is actually a colonial organism, made up of specialized zooids working together as one entity.

Despite its beauty, the bluebottle evokes a sense of danger, thanks to its painful sting that causes discomfort and swelling. However, it plays a vital role in marine ecosystems, serving as both predator and prey, contributing to the biodiversity of our oceans.
