Description
Church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa (a patroness of trade and merchants). It was built at the end of the 12th – at the beginning of the 13th century, near Chernihiv city market at the expense of merchants (by other version built by Prince Ihor, the hero of “Word about Ihor’s regiment”). One of the most prominent monuments of ancient Rus’ architecture it follows the Byzantine architectural tradition. The church has been damaged in the Second World War and then has been restored. It is still a functioning church of Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Chernihiv city centre.
