The blueberry ash tree produces sweet-smelling, bell-shaped flowers in pink or white. The fringed flowers give the Blueberry Ash its common name, Fairy Petticoats. The flowers emit an aniseed or liquorice-like scent. The ripe berries can be eaten directly from the tree, crushed into jams, or used to make bush food tea. Indigenous Australians also used the juice from the ripe berries for medicinal purposes. Blue-tongue lizards and other reptiles, as well as pigeons, cockatoos, parrots, and currawongs, feed on the berries.
